2009 - Participated, invited by the Executive Secretary of the CBD, in the 3rd Meeting of the Chairs of Scientific Committees of biodiversity-related conventions. Nairobi, (Kenya), 4th October.

2009 - Participated in the 7th Meeting of the Open-ended Ad Hoc Working Group on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing of the Convention on Biological Diversity (UNEP) as a member of the Spanish delegation. Paris (France), 6th - 10th April.

2008 - Participated in the 6th Session of the Open-ended Ad Hoc Working Group on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing of the Convention on Biological Diversity (UNEP) as a member of the Spanish delegation. Geneva (Switzerland), 21st – 25th January.

2008 - Participated in the 9th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity as a member of the Spanish delegation. Participated actively in working groups set up during the Conference and in the coordination meetings of the EU. In particular, two issues were followed: Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing and the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. Bonn (Germany), 19th – 30th May.

2008 Participated, invited by the Executive Secretary of the CBD, in the 2nd Meeting of the Chairs of Scientific Committees of biodiversity-related conventions. Bonn, 25th May.

2008 Participated, invited by the Executive Director of UNEP, in the Ad hoc intergovernmental and multi-stakeholder meeting on an Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES); participation funded by UNEP. Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), 10th – 12th November.

2007 - Participated in the 5th meeting of the Open-ended Ad hoc Working Group on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing of the Convention on Biological Diversity (UNEP), held in Montreal (Canada), 8th – 12th October 2007, as a member of the Spanish delegation.

2007 - Participated in the EU Commission Expert Meeting on Research and Access & Benefit-Sharing as a representative of the Spanish Ministry of the Environment. 23rd April, Brussels.

2007 Participated, invited by the Executive Secretary of the CBD, in the 1st Meeting of the Chairs of Scientific Committees of biodiversity-related conventions. Paris, 2nd July.

2006 - Chair of the 4th Meeting of the Open-ended Ad hoc Working Group on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing of the Convention on Biological Diversity (UNEP) (Granada, 30th January – 3rd February) under the patronage of the Spanish Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. At this meeting, 500 delegates from 112 parties to the CBD adopted important recommendations after a week of heavy negotiations, including a first step for a future international regime. Recommendations were addressed to the 8th Conference of the Parties in March 2006, Brazil.

2006 - Participated in the 8th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity as a member of the Spanish delegation; Brazil, March.

2005 - Participated in the 3rd Session of the Open-Ended Ad Hoc Working Group on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing of the Convention on Biological Diversity (UNEP) held in Bangkok as a member of the Spanish delegation.

2003 - Elected by the Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), as a member of the non-official group of 17 expert advisors to the Executive Director on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-sharing. Elected Vice-Chair at the 1st meeting of this group, held in Nairobi in 2004. Participated in the 2nd meeting in Bangkok in February 2005 invited by UNEP and chaired the meeting on this occasion.

2002 - Participated in the 6th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, held in The Netherlands, as a member of the Spanish delegation. The Spanish presidency coordinated the European Union, on the issue of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, adopted by consensus by the Parties (http://www.biodiv.org/programmes/cross-cutting/plant/default.asp).

2000-2001 - Participated in two meetings of the Scientific and Technical Committee (SBSTTA) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Montreal (Canada) in preparation for the 6th CoP.

2000 to 2002 - Participated in three meetings of the Expert Working Group (Montreal, London, Gran Canaria) for the preparation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.
